In the Spotlight: San Maurì, Milano

Chef Paul Bertin (right) and his team

When you visit a busy city like Milano, the options of where to eat are immense. If you are in the center and are looking for an uncomplicated place to treat yourself right, head to San Maurì, a bistro in the heart of city. It is on a quiet, side road of via Torino, just 550 m walk from the Duomo.

Their IG pictures had made me curious, and I had it on my bucket list for some time. Finally, last Saturday I tried their kitchen.  We got their by noon–actually a bit early for a typical, Italian lunch– but we were meeting some friends afterwards.   I am glad to say that the foodie instinct was right again, and lunch was superb.

The menu includes traditional as well as contemporary dishes. Paul Bertin, the chef, and his cheerful team use seasonal, small farmers’ produce, enhancing the flavors wonderfully.

Main dishes:

A good selection of pairing wines, like this Tuscan Le Bèrne 2016.  The service staff was also courteous and attentive.

I think this dessert “Pears Tarte Tatin” resumes San Maurì’s culinary goal: seasonal, abstracting tradition into basics, appealing to the eye, and delicious in taste.

Tip:

Almost next to San Maurì, there is Cose che Parlano, a cute concept store with lots of details and handcrafted work.  Look what I got …
